MEDICARE:

Back in about 1988, Speaker of the House Dan Rostenkowski pushed through some changes to the Medicare system. Babushkas back in his district paid attention, and when Danny came home, the grandmothers came out in force with umbrellas and used them as nightsticks of Rostenkowski.

The reform bill was soon rescinded.

re: medicare

They were playing the medicare bill initially as a win for Bush here. I'm not so sure. I think seniors think the AARP sold them out. And nobody, nobody is happy with no pricing controls on drugs. It virtually guarantees every senior is out of pocked $3K/year before the benefits kick in.
