We did not have the element of surprise, but we did have the element of strategic momentum. It was better to go sooner rather than later in order to prevent Saddam from making possibly lethal preparations for our attack. Additionally, if we waited until the Fall, and needed three months, we would impinge on Ramadan, which was not a good idea........
