BP - I wouldn't mind but at a time when the market is about to take off next year and 05....OK a sell off but $20 in three days?

If this had ended yesterday that would have been one thing but I don't rcall anything like this since the bad days of 2000 and 2002.

Since I don't do technical analysis, it is difficult for me to pinpoint where the bottom may be, but I agree that it probably was reached today. I sold April 75 puts, which is a similar strategy to your buying January 75 calls. I prefer to have a position in options AFTER the release of the next earnings statement, which will come presumably in late January or early February.
