Not on your part. I think you're off by a few decimal places. Further you are using payroll numbers (which does not include the self employed, or those who work for family businesses at no salary). If you look at the BLS's numbers for the number of employed people, you will find that an estimated 138.6 million people were working last month (these are where the unemployment numbers come from). If you look at Septembers numbers, you will see that about 137.6 million people were employed in the United States (see line 2 -http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf.)
