North Korea is not a part of China -- there is absolutely nothing to compare. A declaration of independence would be treated as an act of war, and China would respond as it would to any other attack on its soil. The US would do the same if San Francisco was attacked, or New York. We would not ask: "What is this going to cost us"? In our war on terror we have responded, although it often seems we lack clarity on how to respond. China would have no such confusion -- the response would be fierce -- it would mean war.
