But it now seems that Syria's terrorists in Israel wish to graduate from murdering children one by one to murdering them by the hundred, according to this story. At Home Between 1861 and 1865, the United States government detained hundreds of thousands of American citizens without letting any of them see a lawyer. A What was good enough for Abraham Lincoln does not, however, satisfy the New York Times. And maybe this time the Times is even right: It has occasionally happened before. But it's way past time for supporters of the war to begin to organize an intellectual defense of what ought to be done to protect Americans from organized atrocity by concealed enemies, some of whom may carry American passports.
