the extremism of Osama and his men has finally resulted in the SA monarchy to give more power to its subjects.

Actually, I disagree. Bin Laden's extremism has been evident to the SA royals for years.

But it was only when the US withdrew its forces from SA and then overthrew Saddam, that the Saudis finally realized the US was serious about changing the status quo in the Middle East.. They realized that the PR image they had carefully attempted to groom in the US had also miserably failed.

The US pressure on the Saudis to stop paying "protection" money to the militants through "charities" has led to the militants taking direct and violent action to intimidate the Saudis into paying them off. To date, this strategy has failed and the Saudis have fought back and prevented numerous attacks and captured numerous active, and potential, terrorists.

But prior to the US invasion, there was little evidence that the Saudis were willing to take even the initial steps to deal with the militant "infection" they have permitted to grow within their nation.
