Good morning Z-ers

I wanted to share some thoughts about Z port here as we get closer to ending this year. I’m reminded of why I first came to become a part of this group, which was to learn more about stocks, trading, investing and ways to make money. It was refreshing to come across a thread with people who were real and gave their opinions and even disagreed, but still remain focus on the objectives of the thread. We have had some very good years and some down years. Some of the people who participated in the Z are not longer around. A few are still part of SI, but haven’t participated in the Z port for a while. Which now bring me to my main points. Have we lost focus to the original purpose? I go back to the original post nearly 7 years ago.

Short Term Trading
For the purposes of this thread we have defined Short Term Trading as the buying of stocks with an anticipated holding period of between 2 weeks and 2 months. We will deviate from these guidelines as market conditions dictate.

Price Gain Potential
We will look for stocks that we believe have a reasonable to good potential for a 5-10% gain in 2 weeks and 10-30% in 2 months.

Our trading style has change quite dramatically over the months. In fact the primary focus of late is to day-trade or very short-term trade(hold times of less than a week) just a hand full of stocks. Has the market now become only a day-trading place? It was mentioned just a few days ago by a Zer my days of buy and hold are gone. The same stocks are shorted or bought long over and over again with the goal of small % gains. Is the purpose now just to make the personal numbers and overall portfolio gains look good on paper? To what end does it have to make so many frequent trades other than to boost the gain numbers?

I ask these questions as we come near to the close of a successful year especially after a few years of overall losses in the market. I for one like to trade stocks vs holding to extended periods of time however a balance between short term trading and hold stocks longer than a few days or weeks was the original idea of the thread. How can we attract new people to participate? 253 have the Zport bookmarked. What happen to the people who have posted on a regular basis in the past? And we talked to people on a regular basis who don’t post trades on the Z port. Why is that?

If our trades on the Z reflect our own style then that is the way is should be, but unless our style changes to make it more attractive to new comers will we go another year with a ½ dozen sponsors trading mostly a few stocks over and over again? I would like to see us continue the Z, but with some improvements to make it more appealing to a larger group including new investment ideas and more of a discussion on why we want to own or trade the stock. It’s time to have an open discussion on how to more forward.
