It is being done on a smaller scale than we see in the US. As an exmple - over the web, I Iwas able to place an order for 2 dozen roses to my parents in India - cost less than US$20. compare that to what ftd.com would charge.

2 years ago I visited India - bought shorts for about $2 a piece, got business shirts for about $5 a piece.

Many indian websites are trying to spread their message in one of many local languages - not easy, because the keyboard is still QWERTY, and theres around 50 languages/dialects in India.

Michael, one note I forgot to mention : Most Indians like to look/touch/feel the products they buy. That aspect makes trade on the net a bit harder. As an example : My family (includes me in US, my sisters in Australia, my parents in India) has never bought jewelry of the gold kind, without visiting the jeweler in person, and making our requests specific and understood. Cant be done over the net, no matter how many smart programmers there are.
