LB,
Adlai done himself proud in the 1962 CMC. Americans are wary of intellectuals as presidents. They are also wary of blue bloods. Bush 41 showed his blue blood in his reelection bid and lost. FDR overcame his with polio which made FDR as vulnerable as the poorest among us.
Regarding the draft, Dr. Dean is the only dodger running for office who went to the office armed with xrays and then left for the airport armed with skis. On the plane to Aspen he must have turned and said to his friend "let them eat cake". Now he is like a reformed alcoholic taking the side of the extremists on the social side--those same folks in earlier days who's dads went to vietnam in his place. That worries me alot. He is an evangelist motivated by his own earlier personal failures. When folks become this way, they lose objectivity and that is especially dangerous for a President.
I recognize this in him because sometimes I see it in myself. With me it's the guilt from the vietnam period of not supporting the troops or allowing others to go in my place, that propels me to now be especially pro-military and pro-admin, perhaps some would say to a fault. Thus when I take my pro-Bush positions I always think back to LBJ and try to discover the flaws in current policy in that light. So far in Iraq there have many mistakes but none that would lead me to reverse support or cut and run. With John Dean it goes the other way. Deans comment that the Saudis knew of 9/11 and had warned bush, thus the current possible coverup is more of that. That borders on treason if bush knew and didnt warn, and it borders on treason for Dean to say it in such an offhand manor without a shred of evidence. Again--shoot from the lip Dean. And of course Bush didnt know. Next we will hear from him that the israelis may not have come to work that day. Mike
