Just another example of problems with a corporate dominated state.

The two makers of flu shots in the United States said yesterday they have run out of vaccine and will not be able to meet a surge in demand resulting from fears of a particularly bad flu season.

I'm not blaming the companies involved. When I invest in a company, I expect it to legally maximize profits. The vaccine companies made many more shots than were used last year. This is an unusual year. What's wrong is the system. For many things, markets are great. But markets are not designed to maximize human well being. Our forebears knew this a century ago. They wrote laws such as child labor, to temper the harshness of unbridled capitalism. Since the regressive revival the began under Reagan, the social safety net has been under constant attack. The middle class that is the backbone of this country is shrinking under this assault. But the plutocrats grow ever more wealthy. Anyone who worships at the alter of Adam Smith is committing blasphemy.
