Interesting article. I don't remember seeing anything from Filkins before. "You have to understand the Arab mind," Capt. Oh, I'm just waiting for the screams from all the predictable corners. Trouble is, Arabs make it extremely difficult to be nice to them, since tribe loyalty means the whole society behaves like the Mafia even if they don't like the insurgents, and you cannot conciliate them because they read conciliation as weakness and will respond by attacking harder. So if you get any trouble, you have to respond tough and nasty.
