I'm not afraid of the Patriot Act, are you?

No, but to be quite honest, my libertarian instincts bristle a bit. The events of 9/11, and the fact that we did not have a good handle on the extent of the internal problem, necessitated the legislation. It is hypocritical for some of the Democratic candidates who previously voted in favor of the legislation to now whine about perceived abuses. If there have been any abuses, I do not think that they have been either extensive or systematic. Unfortunately, there are some people who probably got unfairly crunched. It will probably be years before we really know how extensively the legislation has been implemented.

The sunset provisions were an excellent idea. By 2005, we will have a better idea as to what provisions are an absolute necessity.
