Important article in US World and News on the Saudi connection to the Terror Money Trail, and why it's only now being investigated. Money quote:

U.S. intelligence officials knew about Saudi Arabia's role in funding terrorism by 1996, yet for years Washington did almost nothing to stop it. Examining the Saudi role in terrorism, a senior intelligence analyst says, was "virtually taboo." Even after the embassy bombings in Africa, moves by counterterrorism officials to act against the Saudis were repeatedly rebuffed by senior staff at the State Department and elsewhere who felt that other foreign policy interests outweighed fighting terrorism.

Too long to post, go read usnews.com

ps. I smell a counter-attack to all those claims eminating from State about how you bozos at DoD messed up the post-war Iraq planning; you should have listened to us.

This is a virtuous cycle for the United States, but time may not be on our side.

General (4-star)Wayne Downing knows more about combating terrorism than our entire congress put together.

His concerns must be listened too. I speak with SF officers nearly everyday. They are concerned too. There are so many facets to this war that most Americans just do not yet see.
The strength of the militant muslim extremists is estimated at 1.5 million and rising. They are backed by 15 million militant muslims.
Iran, Syria and N Korea are huge problems that have not begun to be addressed in any substantial way.
The entire continent of Africa is one gigantic mess. Sickness and disease levels are overwhelming. Terrorists are everywhere.
SE Asia and the West Pacific have major terror problems.
The terrorists are moving into Western Europe.

We must win in Iraq to have any hope of challenging the threat elsewhere. If we lose, every American will have to buy a small rug and a compass. The rug is to kneel on. The compass is to find East.
