Rose AC is Panglossian. Besides he judges people by their origins. Only origin counts. But he has an origin too. If I would be like him, and would judge him by his origins I would write:

He's a Brit who immigrated to Calif. running away from the perceived decadence of Europe to take a free ride.

Now hearing of the American supremacy being challenged, -which is not anti-americanism is just a judgement based on economics- he can't bear it. Imagine have run away from a country decandent and waking up to the reality that you are in another one.

To counter that, he paints the Panglossian picture that everything is going wonderfully.
