There is socialism & there is socialism. For many yrs I blindly swallowed the capitalist dogma of individual self reliance. However, that textbook theory means nothing to the unfortunate millions who through no fault of their own become sick, aged or otherwise fall upon "Hard Times"(19thC-Dickens). A compromise between Capitalism & Socialism is the wisest & most humanistic course.

I just checked, China's average income: $849 per yr; Norway's avg income: $35,500 vs USA's avg income: $34,500. Norway's system is somewhat socialistic, is it not? Society must take care of the unfortunates who fall between the cracks & it does not follow that the only answer would be abused welfare systems. Those who work full-time & are not a burden on government resources, should at least know their government will not permit greedy corps to outsource their job. Unfettered Capitalism unleashes injustice on the worker that is intolerable in this modern world. Compromise is the only solution. GW Bush had better find one--or he will be enjoying his ranch in Texas after 2004 election.
P.S. I voted for him in 2000.
