Expect them spoiled brats to understand how things go or how to swim in a free enterprise system? No labor union, no safety net, no free lunch, but swim or drown by one's own choice or fate. Break a leg on the job or elsewhere? Workman comp - what's that? Why not be more careful next time, but it's also time to find another living that doesn't require too much leg work. Believe it or not, I came across a few old American farmers who got on the job injuries (say got kicked by a horse on the chest) and they let the injuries mend by themselves, never got the chest bones mended by a doctor. They lived to their late seventies and mid eighties anyway.

"authoritarian government"? China today is more like an anarchy gov. than a authoritarian gov. But think what you want to, even if it is far from the fact.

When a government is so fearful of its own people that it censors the internet, I know what to call it.

The Chinese government doesn't have the top down control of someone like Saddam, obviously, the country is just too big and diverse, but all you have done is prove my point about putting down demonstrations as fear of loss of whatever control they have, and nothing to do with being "soft" on foreigners.
