<<Brian Riedl, a federal budget analyst for the conservative Heritage Foundation in Washington, said Republicans had learned to use earmarking to stay in power. "The easiest way to raise money, build a political machine and get re-elected is to toss political pork out to your supporters," Riedl said. As a result, he said, "The trend has been straight up.">>

In a way, I commend the Republicans for finally learning how to "govern" (the way the Democrats ruled for about 40 years).

In another way, I deplore it. Goddamn it, it's not in the best interest of the country. What the hell ever happened to character and core values? Is the choice REALLY, REALLY, either dole out the pork or lose your reelection bid?

IMO, this is nothing but another argument for term limits.
