You wrote:<font color=blue>"Our government doesn't always get it right, and it's up to the people to protest when they don't."<font color=black>

So, you feel that the high school dropout misfits, who protest things that they don't understand, are going to make everything better if they protest? The defects who are protesting would make things worse if they were in charge.

Is it "the dropouts to the rescue"? Are they going to ride up on white horses to rescue our country, when they probably couldn't even run a kool aid stand successfully?

You wrote:<font color=blue>"If you believe in the right to protest, and you believe in the right to free speech, then you have to allow that someone might burn a flag as part of their protest."<font color=black>

And it is part of my right to free speech to want to take someone who is burning an American flag, castrate him, and ask him to recite his first amendment rights while I am giving him a fitting communion.

You wrote:<font color=blue>"Would you allow pulling down a statue of Bush as part of a protest? How about hanging a politician in effigy? How about burning a politician in effigy?"<font color=black>

Yes, yes and yes. But, our flag is special and it is sacred. Too many have given up life and limb, under that flag, to allow some half brained, dropout to desecrate it.

You wrote:<font color=blue>"So once you pass a law abridging free speech, you are no longer as free."<font color=black>

Excuse me, but that is really naive. There are limits to all rights, and you should know that. For instance we have libel laws. We have laws against false accusations. You can't yell "fire" in the proverbial movie theater.

Free speech would still be protected, if at the same time we protected one of the most important symbols of our country. Is nothing to be held sacred any more?

You wrote:<font color=blue>"Are you a Nazi? Or an American?"<font color=black>

Calling someone you know who is Jewish, a Nazi, is protected under the first amendment rights. I support your right to do so, but it makes you seem crude and obnoxious. If you want to use your free speech to insult other people's culture or race, you have the freedom to do so. You've just made a point about the value of free speech to you.
