It is still a matter of some debate. Scholars are quite sure, however, that we are not talking about establishment Jews, but rather Jewish sectarians. The scrolls suggest Judaism was not monolithic, but diverse.

I disagree when you say there is "no reason" why the process should take so long, unless there is something sordid going on.
