I believe VietNam funding and eroded value of TBonds held by Saudis, Kuwaitis, and other emirate nations contributed to a general resentment toward America on the financial front, which later mushroomed when we aided Israel during the critical brief wars early in the 1970 decade

our punishment was the OPEC Oil Embargo in 1973
with a quadrupling in price

I dont remember any natgas price controls
except during 1971 Nixon Wage Price Control nonsense
afterwards, it unleashed a horrendous torrent of price inflation
