Take it a step at a time.

I've spent hundreds of hours on NC's theories on language decomposition wrt natural and machine language for academic courses in compilers, which must unambiguously extract meaning. He literally invented the mathematics for that rigorous process, and later began to apply that to discovering meaning from daily and political rhetoric.

I don't agree with his conclusions in a few areas, notably the JFK assassination, and he's a socialist from boyhood, but he's a genius at rigorous analysis of text and worth careful study, point by point, imo.

Compare that to, say, Fox or any mainstream "news" channels, which are dumping grounds for propaganda releases from gov't and business which they read without question.

Among Chomsky's recommended news sources are the Wall Street Journal as well as the usual alternative media.

The biggest shock on encountering Chomsky's political discussions years ago was discovering the extent to which the US bureaucracy invents enemies, foreign and domestic, to increase power and control over the citizenry. The next shock was the willingness for complete disregard of human life, in these calculations. This is repugnant to Americans. As the PNAC documents say, "only another Pearl Harbor will motivate Americans" to start another war and continue to build a totalitarian gov't. And so it was.
