I was referencing back to Moses & brother Joshua , David , Solomon on down to Jesus ....the Hebrews did a fair job early on eradicating ,many of their neighbors or enslaving them ....for that is how this "monotheistic" temple was built in Jerusalem oringinally by Solomon which he used slave labor from the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
but so it goes ..

Summary of Conquests of Joshua and Moses:
bibleexplained.com

the history following Moses on the mountain is a bloody one all the way down to the time of the stories of Jesus we assign around the the time just before the destruction of the Temple.

The history of the ME is an extremely complex one , and it has always involved war, fanatics and fundamentalist terrorists . And on a relative basis , Solomon was no more lenient or less taxing than Pontius Pilate.

Might have just been easier, all things considered to have sacrifice a few bulls to Jove , as some were actually enjoying the Helenist good life , and live in peace .<g>

This monotheism that is assigned as a great "value" ...i see differently , and wonder if it were such a value in the end. Sure has spawned enough blood spilling as far as I can see ...exclusivism, suspicion , persecution etc... and might be just as efficacious to worship many Gods and become a pantheist as much as worshipping just one...

or just become a humanist , and worship reason ...and let intrinsic epiphanies be private , or manifest through science , philosphy and art in the public domain . Leave mysticism to the mystics.

(The Bahai Temple in Israel is very beautiful , nice thing about Israel is it's openess to this freedom of religious expression ..but in the end we humans are all pantheists, imho )

;-)

at the time, was the only monotheistic religion.

well , it has good company now...

A recent set of sermons from Baghdad pulpits ....from some of the monotheism's faithful interpreters :
stream.realimpact.net

somehow , I don't find the same reassuring comfort in monotheism that you may.

Looks more like a kind of medieval fascism to me , or extreme paranoia , frought with the specter of ancient endemic violence that dates back farther than mohammed and his little tribal god allah...
but whatever floats their boats over the sands ...<g>

(And they say that Hindus are superstitious and need saving , yet they invented non-violence with their pantheism before Moses' and the commandments ...and the idea of one universal mind=Brahma)

Nice little propaganda piece only broadcasted recently during the month of Ramadan, by Hizbullah's satellite television channel Al-Manar, which is viewed worldwide, broadcasted a 30-part antisemitic Syrian-produced series titled Al-Shatat ("Diaspora"). According to a November 11, 2003 report by the Syrian daily Syria Times, it is "a Syrian TV series recording the criminal history of Zionism."

In this wonderful piece of Syrian/Hezbullah poduced propaganda there is depicted the blood thirsty conspiring evil Jews seeking to slaughter a christian child to make their matzo bread from his blood:

remember this was aired just recently all over and during Ramadan . There is one very graphic scene in this clip so be advised any who choose to watch. This is only one of 30 part episodes , all just as defaming & inciting.

This type of imbecilic propaganda does tend to make one very much pro-Israel, which I personally am .

It's all a very very bad movie in the end ....monothesim and all...but i suppose somewhere hidden there is something noble and enduring in the human struggle and competitions through history to just awaken from so many bad dreams human tribes can continue to conjour up about one another.
