On the other hand, nothing in real life is as bad as SI (well, Klan rallies are probably that bad, but aside from that...). Most people aren't like that. The people on the threads, like the one you mention, are aberrant. Don't judge America by the Americans on SI. That would be like judging Americans by the Jerry Springer Show- sure there are some freaks in America, but not everyone is.

hi Dale, regarding the AS thread, and a total lack of effort to find a common ground. I don't think people are looking for a common ground there. I actually went there to talk to AS, who I guess most think is some sort of an extremist. There are moderate threads around but that isn't one of them. I think that thread was set up to backstab AS actually.

A perfect reflection of so much hatred and intolerance that permeates American society today. Really sad. But just a reflection of our politicians too. Hatred and intolerance has been with us from the beginning of man. It's not American made. If I were going to characterize American society today I would say they mostly stupidly follow political pied pipers off a cliff. And the politicians we have are a reflection of the society as a whole. Now that is sad. But these politicians have become a class and have rigged the system to perpetuate their own success in the system. I'd say the #1 trait of Americans today is utter stupidity.
