No strike...just cuts SBC to Cut Up to 4,000 Jobs Tuesday December 9, 9:10 am ET PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC - News), the second-largest U.S. local telephone company, said Tuesday it would cut as many as 3,000 to 4,000 jobs in the fourth quarter as it cuts costs to offset shrinking revenues. The cuts, which will be made through early-retirement incentives and attrition, represent about 1.9 to 2.5 percent of SBC's workforce. The company had about 160,000 workers at the end of the third quarter. CC
