9 Dec 2003 10:55 ET DJ Dollar To Fall Through Year End -HSBC Currency Strategist

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The dollar will likely continue its decline though the end of the year, said Marc Chandler, currency strategist with HSBC.

In a CNBC interview Tuesday, Chandler said the government wants to pump as much economic stimulus into the economy as possible, and the weaker dollar is consistent with that strategy.

The weak dollar also is benefiting the U.S. because it hasn't caused a rise in inflation or interest rates, which generally happens when the dollar declines a lot, he said.

Chandler added that the weakness of the dollar doesn't have as much of an impact on the overall economy as some people think. Export growth is slower now than it was when the dollar was strong, he added.

No one is complaining about the dollar's weakness, so it will probable decline further, he said.
