It is best for him if he can take a retired General who was opposed to the war from the outset. A year from now Iraq is likely to be a lot messier (and more so, because Dumbya wants to pretend things are fine and will probably withdraw about half the troops by election time, exposing the remaining soldiers to even greater dangers...) and it is best if both the Pres and the VP candidate were opposed to the war.
