It is amazing to listen. Especially when they have to reverse course, and pretend they're being consistent. The Gore endorsement of Dean is fun for that reason -- a simple sincere act by Gore has to be freighted with all manner of Machiavellian subterfuge, because that's what they deal with in their own minds, constantly. William Safire and David Brooks are two of the most clever dissemblers in America ... on issue after issue after issue, the two of them disregard reality and decency for the sake of an ideological purity that protects their pompous place in society. Their deceits and conceits are replete and riven with hypocrisy, hype and hubris.
