If someone wants to make $50,000 a year (average) with good benefits, and have reasonably good job security, become a public school teacher in California (or a bus mechanic for the Los Angeles MTA).

I've heard that the PA Turnpike attendants make about $5-10K more than that number.

DavesM,

You don't want to get me going on the public school system:)

What we really need is a third political party. The Centrist Party. When conservatives are in control, workers suffer. When liberals control congress, law & order disintegrates. The Centrists would moderate the dogmatic capitalists on right & the angry, liberal left.
.....and we'll all live happily thereafter. THE END
