Actually, I'd say most reasonable people called it a virtual tie. What upset people was that it was decided by a 5/4 decision of the Supreme court, which is currently Republican dominated. The election was more reminiscent of a banana republic than America. If an election were decided in another country with the nod going to the brother of the guy who is governor of the state in dispute, I imagine we'd all think it was crooked.

Actually Gore won Florida and that would have been well-known if the Supreme Court hadn't jumped in.
