That's amusing. While I don't know how smart or legal the policy is, it is strangely satisfying, even for someone like me who didn't have a problem with the Canadians or even the French.

European Commission spokeswoman Arancha Gonzalez said the EU executive would look into whether setting limits on the bidders met World Trade Organization (news - web sites) rules.

I seem to remember reading an article about France and Germany violating the EU's Stability Pact recently without being punished. I don't know how any country points fingers with a straight face these days.

The French stand to lose money already invested in Iraq oil and so did Italy. Italy was smart enough to pick a winning side. Canada as usual did not have the smarts to side with our largest trading partner.

Several Saskatchewan Indians from Pheasant-Rump, Muskoday and Kawacatoose First Nation are in Iraq right now fighting for the U.S. Of course most of them are Nakota, Lakota and Dakota descendants of Sitting Bull so they consider themselves part American.
