I'd like to think I would have viewed him and his actions the same way Orwell did, objectively concluding that his regime and his actions were a threat to the entire world that must be stopped.

But obsession, in this context, is not healthy; it is not conducive to objective reasoning. Rather, it is a symptom of one's total devotion of oneself to some cause - some form of "nationalism" as Orwell termed it - to the point of irrationality.

You know, schools should stop making kids read 1984 and have them read Orwell's political essays and articles instead. Clearly the message is getting lost.
