Applied's Morgan receives global leadership award

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--James Morgan, chairman of Applied Materials Inc., has been given the inaugural SEMI Global Leadership Award at the 24th Annual SEMI Awards Ceremony today.

The award recognizes a visionary leader whose long-time commitment and contributions to the semiconductor equipment and materials industry have helped shape global commerce and the development of information technology.

Morgan is an emeritus member of the SEMI International board of directors. He served as an advisor to three U.S. presidents on issues of technology and the global economy and has received numerous awards including the National Medal of Technology, which he received in 1996. He was succeeded as CEO of Applied Materials by Michael R. Splinter in April of this year.
