Gregor,
The reason the I am interested in multi-nationals is twofold:

Like REITs, the Dow is hitting highs and is in a strong bull trend.
Unlike REITs, I can see short term earnings fundamentals increasing without a perfect scenario, including a weakening dollar.

REITs do not have an attractive supply/demand balance yet (except for retail) and may not for a few years. In addition, interest rates are more likely to harm than help. So, earnings fundamentals are weak and may not strengthen for 3-4 years in sectors like apartments, office and industrial. Part of the reason they might not strengthen even if the economy picks up, is that interest rates are so low, every builder is chomping at the bit to build, so supply may grow as fast or faster than demand.
