I like your characterization of Dean being the carrier of all the hate that a lot of Dems feel for Bush. Dean, unfortunately, is simply a loose cannon, a fact that will become increasingly evident as time goes on. Dems need a credible Clinton-style centrist (not an oxymoron) to pull off a victory.

I cannot for the life of me find a rationalization for why Gore single-handedly made Dean the front-runner, other than perhaps his knowledge that his endorsement effectively eviscerates Hillary's chances in '04; Gore might consider her electable in '04, a disaster as far as his ambitions are concerned. This sets up the inevitable Gore/Hillary showdown in '08.

Lots of people dumping on Hillary lately--Bush with the trip to Baghdad while she was in Afghanistan, Gore with the Dean endorsement.
