PASSPORT: AN ELECTRONIC PASSPORT AFTER LATE 2004
(AGI) - Rome, Italy, December 11 - The old form of passport will give way to an electronic passport. The prototype of the new document, which follows the Icao security laws, will probably begin issue in late 2004. It will have a micro chip able to memorize the picture of its owners face and his fingerprints. The new passport was presented this morning at Rome's Fiumicino airport in the presence of Undersecretary to Foreign Affairs, Mario Baccini, deputy general secretary, Giampiero Massolo, Undersecretary to Justice, Valentino, the general manager of the Interior Ministry, Stefano Petecchia and the general manager of the airport, Carlo Luzzatti.
