Years ago I hired an Irish kid who had just recently arrived in the States. I asked him what it was that prompted him to move thousands of miles away from his home. He explained that back in Ireland a typical guy his age would be on the "dole". Because getting on the dole was so easy, the jobs that were available to him would be part time and most likely pay below market rates under the table because whom ever would employ him would count on the fact that he would get subsidized by the government payments. He told me the whole thing disgusted him because what he really wanted was the work, he wanted to be a working photographer not get paid to do little or nothing. He was a terrific worker and an extremely talented individual. He stayed here in this country and has been a very successful photographer.

There are always going to be casualties. as a society you need to decide what to do with them.. Neither way will work great in the end. We need to mutate into some type of higher being. I won't hold my breath.
