The average shareholder is not the one that applied unrealistic pressure on those cos--it was the dishonest Wall St crowd. NYSE & SEC aided & abetted the heist. Reasonable growth is fine for majority of shareholders, only the robber barons of Wall St expect huge growth without any regard to the means of effecting that growth.

P.S. The owner might take the risk but also gets lion-share of the reward. That does not entitle them to act like 19thC lords of the manor in treatment of their workforce.
