To me, they're quintessential home grown American nut cases, like Ted Kaczynski, with an agenda which is personal.

We have gone through the "What is a Terrorist? argument many times on Israel, haven't we? To me, Ted is a classic case of an Environmental extremist carrying out what the others just talk about. Al Gore could have written his manifesto. He was no "Nut Case," just a true believer.

Ted's agenda was personal, and quite political. Malvo and Muhammed supposedly believed themselves engaged in Jihad. The point is arguable. One I don't care to argue, but arguable.
