That's ridiculous. He's supposed to permanently sever all ties to his own law firm just so he can try to persuade the French that if they ever want a dime out of Iraq, they're going to have to negotiate workable terms? He already can't benefit financially from mediating the debt talks, but that's not good enough? You want to tell him who his friends should be, too? Face it - Baker is perfect for this, but the NYT can't say that without finding something to bitch about.
