Philosophically, he's close to my own beliefs about a just society and great nation. However, I realize that I'm quixotic in my own eccentric way. I see the destruction of America's democratic principles by grasping corporate greedheads and I'm repulsed. See: Message 19591476 That said, far too many Americans are complaisant about the social destructiveness of the deplorable unfairness that Nike et al promote. Kucinich clearly undestands the problems of returning to a "robber baron" model of capitalism and I admire him for speaking out. *** Re: To be blunt, Koppel is an arrogant asshole. I couldn't agree more. Add to that he's boorish. The questions about Gore's endorsement were completely inappropriate at the debate the other night. It set an ugly tone for the debate that is not helpful for moving democracy forward, but was designed mere to boost Koppel's ratings as a jerk who knows how to pander to the lowest common denominator. Turning the debate into an opportunity for interparty bickering is better left to the pros at Fox. *** Re: The Republican scrum of 1999 included a lot of candidates that had no realistic chance of being nominated, but these early debates, if structured properly, can be informative. I certainly found that I was being informed about the Republican Party when I got to listen to the views of Steve Forbes and Allan Keyes, among others. I consider each to be self-serving crackpots, but I suspect either one would actually have made a better President than Bush. Particularly since 9/11 would have never occurred, and the subsequent wars would have been avoided.
