Utter nonsense. They may print a Bible or two but they codified separation or nonestablishment which is the same dang thing.

Even Jefferson wasn't immune to concerns about his public image. In a superstitious age (even more than our own), he couldn't say things in public no matter how strongly he believed in them.

Yeah, some things they got wrong --- like voting rights only for white male property holders, and slavery.

Still... pretty advanced concepts for the times. (Good thing they had the examples of the Renaissance, and early Greek democracy to build their ideas of an ideal society upon....)
