Yundi Li, pianist

Yundi Li’s professional career was launched with his thrilling victory at the Warsaw Chopin Competition in 2000. “Li is a superstar in the making,” exclaimed The Toronto Star. The Los Angeles Times wrote, “His victory, which assures Li of an entree to the world’s major concert halls and recording studios, has turned the pianist into an overnight sensation in his native land.”

Born in Chongqing, China in 1982, Yundi Li began piano studies at the age of seven after early studies on the accordion. In 1991 he began studying with Dan Zhao Yi, one of China’s most renowned piano teachers. Mr. Li won the Stravinsky International Youth Piano Competition in 1995 and the Liszt International Youth Piano Competition in 1999.

Yundi Li has been hailed for his fearless technique and unique abilities as an interpreter of composers such as Chopin and Liszt. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon recording artist, his first recording—an all-Chopin disc—was released in 2002.

Yundi Li made his Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra debut in September 2003.
