Hal Lindsay... taught that Israel being formed as nation in 1948 was the 'fig tree' fulfillment of this verse; Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: That was a "KEY SIGN" that marked "This (that in your English Class) generation" He then stated that a generation in the scripture is 40 years. That part he had right but instead of adding it to 30 AD he added it to 1948 when Israel was re-eastablished as a nation. He also went so far as to say that a 'fig branch' was the national symbol of Israel - which it is not and was not in his book "Christ returns by 1988" After 1988 the book was swept from shelves. You see according to scripture false prophets are to be stoned to death. how many more books could he sell being seen as much like them? Well truth is - to most people truth doesn't seem to matter that much .. he sold millions and made million - funny part is that he bought a lot of real estate with all that money - even right up until 1988 when Christ was supposed to return and he was to be raptured out. Seems he wanted to hedge his bet a little and didn't really believe his own stuff. Brian
