<I don't think the tax situation is that different here in the states.>.......you are absolutely correct on that Orca. Provinces have varying rates & types of taxes as do states.

I believe one huge advantage to the average joe/jane in the US is the ability to deduct interest on their mortgages. This is a huge cost saving. I don't know why we can't get our dumb ass government to see the genious of that type of policy. It would allow young people to buy affordable housing as well as stimulating forestry, building, construction & employment. Money keeps rotating. I don't know if you remember the 1981 period when interest rates sky rocketed. People in Canada were walking away from their homes & letting the banks take over. Couldn't afford the interest on the mortgage.

Brain drain. Yes Canada does have a huge problem. Our best doctors, engineers, students, etc are migrating to the states. The big problem here is the differential between the $C & $US......and also the huge wages that the US firms will pay for their services......we can't compete, plain & simple.

I don't know where ak's line of logic comes from. The US is the largest comsumer country in the world by far. Canada has a product, US wants it so they pay for the product. 30M people cannot absorb as many products as 300m people, so what we end with is a trade imbalance. Disadvange to Canucks is that we have to pay the same price as the US even tho that product is produced alot cheaper than what the companies are selling it for. Why would petro-canada sell oil to Canadians for $20/barrel when they can get $33 from the US? They don't so we end up paying the same price even tho that is oil is extracted/produced at $4/barrel.

Anyways, I'm getting carried away here Orca. Hope I didn't bore you. I'm a designated driver tonite as one of the local companies is having their xmas party. Talk to ya later:o)
