That was bad timing on the part of Al Gore to not let his former running mate know that he would not be endorsing him. No doubt.

On the other hand, Lieberman had drifted away from Gore's position on the war in Iraq, while Dean was more aligned with Gore's thinking politically.

Beyond that Joe had little or no chance to win. His campaign was out of gas and he was way down in the polls. On the otherhand, Dean was riding high in the polls and had excellent grass roots support. He's bringing in more money than Clinton's record breaking contributions.

So it comes as no surprise to me that Gore has endorsed Dean. The most important thing to Gore is to beat Bush. His observation about the success of the Dean campaign was not lost on the other candidates. The sooner that democrats come together in unity against Bush the better chance they have to beat Bush.
