Trusting Saddam would be truly insane. Most of the experts agree that Saddam was not a threat to the US. The proper course would have been to continue to pressure Saddam, to work with the UN and NATO. By working with our allies and garnering the support of the world we could have taken out Saddam just the same. Then we would have had the support in the policing functions in the post "major combat" phase. Much more support in the rebuilding phase, and much more support in the funding of reconstruction and the forgiving of debt. These are all problems that we still confront.

But most importantly, we could have, and should have kept our focus on bin Laden and Al Qaeda. This is where the imminent danger to America truly lies.

We launched a pre-emptive invasion of a country which did not post an immenent threat to our security. Wait awhile for the historical verdict on the propriety of that action.
