Geez, I haven't seen many of the tv talking heads with this news. Except for the "Don't shoot" part. How come?

I think, at this point, if Saddam had any WMD he'd gladly trade them for life in prison.

RE: Line Item Veto

Hey Jack,

I have re read your post and see that you did refer to Bush "1", not Bush "2", as having received the Line Item Veto and as subsequently "going silent on its merits" in #reply-19592803. Well, you seem to have confused Bush 1 with Clinton. As I reported and substantiated, a Republican Congress first granted Clinton the Line Item Veto in 1996, making Clinton the first President that had Line Item Veto. The democrat controlled Congress was too partisan to grant Reagan the line item veto during his Presidency, something which Reagan fought very hard for, and something which he used very successfully during his governorship of California.

Unfortunately imo, the Supreme Court subsequently overturned the law that provided Clinton (and all Presidents) the Line Item Veto, and Clinton ended up having the LIV only for one year. cato.org

As far as I know, a form of Line Item Veto power for the President has never been reinstated, and Bush 2 does not have it. If you or someone knows otherwise, please let me know with some referenced links.

Regards, Huey
