Morgan Stanley Ousts Analyst, Alleging 'Selective Disclosure'

Morgan Stanley has ousted a research analyst for what the blue-chip securities firm considered "selective disclosure" of information to a handful of clients, according to people familiar with the events.

The firm's action against Steven Pelayo, a semiconductor-equipment analyst in the San Francisco office, shows how quick firms are to crack down on alleged misconduct these days, when regulators look to be literally competing to file charges against both firms and individuals.

Mr. Pelayo, 33 years old, was allowed to resign voluntarily on Dec. 8 after the firm found evidence of "inappropriate dissemination" of his research views in e-mails he had sent in the second half of October, people familiar with the events said.[snip]
