Allawi doesn't say anything about Saddam and AL Qaida.
He's a CIA asset but he sounds like he's sensible. He sounds correct when he says the current violence is a phenomenon of our own making because we invaded so fast without planning the aftermath that we created a power vaccum. Into that vaccuum leapt all forces against US occupation of which there are plenty to choose from. Allawi wants us to fund a 250,000 man Iraqi army which would be great, but who the hell can we trust to do that? Maybe Allawi can eb trusted. Maybe not. Who the hell knows over there? Frankly, I don't thni anyone knows how to fix this mess. We can only hope it starts fixing itself. In the meantime, don't expect Iraq to get any easier. It's a huge swamp to drain and the job might even be beyond our capacity. Which is why we need the full international community behind us, as we needed from the beginning.
